Aberdour Castle

UK»Scotland»Fife»Aberdour Castle

Aberdour Castle was built some time before the year 1200 as a two story fortified tower house for the de Mortimer family. The castle was extended many times over the next 400 years then an extensive fire in 1680 caused almost total ruin of the building. In the 1700's the east range was restored and the central and west ranges were left. Outside the castle are extensive gardens included the terraces and the walled garden in which stands St Fillans Church.
