Abergavenny Castle

This Norman castle started life in 1075 by Baron Bergavenny, first feudal lord of Abergavenny, as a earthwork motte and bailey fortess. Rectangular stone keep added in the 12th century, and high curtain walls in the 14th century. Deliberately damaged in the English Civil War to stop occupation, and never repaired. Today all that is left is two sides of the curtain wall.
