Astley Castle

UK»England»Warwickshire»Astley Castle

Astley Castle is a ruinous moated fortified 16th century manor house in North Warwickshire, t is has been listed as a Grade 11 listed building since 1951 and as a Scheduled Ancient Monument since 1994. It has been derelict and sadly neglected since it was severely damaged by fire in 1978 whilst in use as an hotel and is officially a building at risk. Astley Castle is one step closer to being saved following the news (25 June) that the Heritage Lottery Fund has given a pledge of support for a grant of £1.47million. The pledge is stage one of a two stage process and plans for the project are being developed further by Landmark and it is hoped that confirmation of a grant from the HLF will be announced in Spring 2009.
