The grave comprises of a long narrow passage, leading to a main chamber and three side chambers. Excavations of the small side chambers reveal that they were used for funerals. Barclodiad y Gawres is known as a decorated Cruciform Passage Grave.

*internally the burial chamber can now be visited by appointment every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday between 12 and 4pm from 1 April until 31 October. Visitors should call into the nearby Wayside Stores in Llanfaelog, one mile north of the chamber, and they will be accompanied to the chamber by a member of staff.
