Bickham Wood: The reserve lies 5km west of Chard and is a site of 13 ha (33 acres). It comprises very wet, ancient, semi-natural woodland on the edge of the Blackdowns AONB. It has a rich ground flora and a contains many county notable species including Beech fern Accumulating dead wood provides ideal conditions for many invertebrates and Bryophytes. Glades provide good light conditions for tree regeneration and ground flora development.


The ancient woodland indicator species, indicate unbroken tree cover for a long time, probably long before the 16th Century. The site contains nearly 50% of all ancient woodland indicators present in the SW region.
