Burtonwood Park: The land on which Burtonwood Nature Park is sited was purchased by Warrington Borough Council in 1987 and began its transformation from farm field to wildlife haven. With extensive tree planting, meadow development and pond creation a habitat was developed that supports the developing mixed woodland areas and provides feeding and nesting for many species of birds, supplementing the surrounding countryside. During the summer many migrant birds such as willow warblers and chiffchaffs can be heard whilst swallows and martins swoop overhead. The colourful meadows offer diverse flora and a wealth of butterflies in the summer and early morning visitors have the chance of spotting foxes and hares. The Nature Park is an ideal place for a quiet walk, a picnic, wildlife watching or for the more energetic a public footpath runs along the western boundary from the Chapel Lane entrance out to Barn Lane, linking to the wider countryside beyond.
