Castle of Old Wick

Castle of Old Wick: The ruin of the best-preserved Norse castle in Scotland. Dating from the 12th-century, this site is on a spine of rock projecting into the sea, between two deep, narrow gullies. There is little doubt that this castle site is one of the oldest in Caithness and there is evidence to suggest that the ancient earls of the Norse line occupied defensive fortifications here 800 years ago.
