Cubbie Roos Castle: One of the oldest castles of Scotland, built around 1145, containing the remains of a small rectangular tower enclosed in a circular ditch. Mentioned in the Orkneyinga Saga, local viking story, dating from the early thirteenth century in which the killers of the last Norse Earl of Orkney, Earl John fled to the castle.
