Downhill Strand

Downhill Strand: Downhill strand is the eastern limit of an 11 km stretch of unbroken sand running from Magilligan Point to the Temple. Downhill is part of the Magilligan Area of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. Beneath the gaze of the famous Mussenden Temple, backed by magnificent cliffs, which mark an ancient shoreline and with an abundance of bird life and cascading waterfalls, Downhill is one of Ireland's most scenic beaches. A number of shallow streams including the larger Umbra Burn cross the beach and fording by car requires care.
