Dumbarton Castle: The structures still standing today are the fortifications of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Vistors climb the 557 steps to the White Tower Crag and view all the other features. The castle sits on a plug of volcanic basalt known as Dumbarton Rock which is 240 feet (73 metre) high.
