Enniskillen Castle

UK»Northern Ireland»Enniskillen»Enniskillen Castle

Enniskillen Castle, situated beside the River Erne in County Fermanagh, was built almost 600 years ago by Gaelic Maguires. Guarding one of the few passes into Ulster, it was strategically important throughout its history. This historic site houses two museums, Fermanagh County Museum and The Inniskillings Museum.

Fermanagh County Museum - The museum collections reflect Fermanaghs history, culture and environment. Its exhibitions cover the prehistory and natural history of Fermanagh, the countys traditional rural life, local crafts and the celebrated pottery at Belleek. Additional displays within Enniskillen Castle trace the long and complex history of this building from its original use as a stronghold of the local Gaelic Maguire chieftains to its later use as a Plantation castle and military barracks.

Inniskillings Museum - Includes its collection of uniforms, weapons, medals and memorabilia dating back to the 17th Century.
