Great St Marys Church

UK»England»Cambridgeshire»Cambridge»Great St Marys Church

Great St Marys Church: There has been a church on the site since at least 1200 and the present building dates from the late 15th century. Great St Marys offers unrivalled views of Cambridge from the top of the tower in its historic town centre position. On a clear day you can see as far as Peterborough to the North West, Ely Cathedral to the north and the Gog Magog hills to the South East. The chimes from its clock tower were copied for the Westminster chimes at Big Ben in London. Many of the Cambridge Protestant reformers preached in St. Marys it is a peaceful and holy place absolutely steeped in history.

Head for the town centre and park either at Lion Yard car park in Corn Exchange Street (200 yards walk to the church via the market) or Park Street car park (200 yards walk to the church along Trinity Street). Both these are multi-storey car parks.

The train station is located in Station Road approximately half a mile from the town centre. There is a variety of bus routes that leave the station about every 7 to 10 minutes. Taxis are available too. It is about 20 minutes to walk from here.

f you arrive by bus from out of town you will be deposited at the bus station in Drummer Street. Either walk along Emmanuel Street or Christ's Lane and cross over the road into Petty Cury, or The Lion Yard shopping arcade (next to John Lewis'). From here walk through to the market. In all, about 200 yards.
