The Voluntary Town Guides provide walking tours that show and explain the town to thousands of people each year.

The most popular walking tour is the Historical Tour of the town. This includes a brief history from the earliest times with visits to the Abbot's Hospital, St Mary's Church, the Undercroft and the Castle grounds. In addition to the Historic Walking Tour, the Guides offer other walking tours on Medieval Guildford, Hidden Guildford, The River Wey, Lewis Carroll and the ghost and ledgends tour which is popular with the children.

How to get here

Foot

Walks start from Tunsgate Arch which is located half way up the High Street (opposite the Guildhall Clock)

From the train station:
Exit through the main entrance, bear right and follow the footpath down to the pedestrian crossing, opposite Bridge House. Cross and follow the footpath as it bears to the left and continue across the bridge (Onslow Bridge) over the River Wey. Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing until you are outside the Friary Centre. Turn left and follow the footpath, just past the taxi rank on the right, cross the road and head down the pedestrianised street between "New Look" and "Nandos" passing "Woolworths" on the right. At the end of the street you have reached the High Street, just turn left and continue up the hill until you reach Tunsgate Arch.

From the bus station:
When you leave the bus turn left (do not enter the Friary Centre) and head towards White Lion Walk, if it is open walk through the covered mall, at the end you have reached the High Street, just turn left and continue up the hill until you reach Tunsgate Arch. If White Lion Walk is closed, turn left at the entrance and head up the hill passed "M&S" on the right and take the next left (Swan Lane). At the end of the lane you have reached the High Street, just turn left and continue up the hill until you reach Tunsgate Arch.
