Ghost Tour

Hear folk tales of the supernatural and mining superstitions, Explore the mine by candlelight and hear the 'knockers' hard at work in the darkness. Wander through the dead forest and into the ancient buildings.

The mine is an atmospheric place in daylight. At night, the tunnels are alive with different sounds and shadows! We take you into two of the mine chambers, or stopes, both dating from 200 years ago. The Big Stope has a distinct 'cold spot' where an old ladderway once ran up to the surface. Many mediums have told of a child's spirit here and an accident long ago! The second chamber forms part of Poole's Mine and is a place where many Orbs have appeared in photographs. Can you see the Red Soldier? This Napoleonic War figure sometimes turns up in photographs as well and we have the proof! Over 300 years of mining history is all around you on this fascinating experience.
