Maplehurst Wood is an area of ancient woodland on Wadhurst clay and Ashdown sands. The wood is the only East Sussex location of one plant species and is valuable for local breeding birds, which include kestrel, tawny owl, greater spotted woodpecker, cuckoo and nuthatch.
