Maxstoke Castle

UK»England»Warwickshire»Maxstoke Castle

Maxstoke Castle is a 14th century moated castle which was built by William de Clinton, Earl of Huntingdon. The original wooden bridge and drawbridge have had to be replaced by a stone bridge, however, the gatehouse, crenulated curtain walls and corner towers remain complete. The Castle was bought by Sir Thomas Dilke in 1599 and the Fetherston-Dilke family still live in it today. As well as being surrounded by the moat it is set in five acres of gardens and pleasure grounds, which are open to the public under the National Gardens scheme.
