Nevendon Bushes

UK»England»Essex»Basildon»Nevendon Bushes

Nevendon Bushes is one of the last remaining fragments of old woodland within the urban area of Basildon. Full of woodland wildlife, wild service tree and wood anemones.

The woodland provides a wonderful green oasis for local people to enjoy and is a haven for woodland wildlife, including Woodpeckers and Sparrowhawks as well as many Warblers, such as Blackcaps, Whitethroats and Willow Warblers.

The woodland is thought to be ancient. Evidence of the wood's long history comes from the old wood bank bordering the eastern edge and the presence of the Wild Service tree.

Other indicators of the woodlands ancient origins include the beautiful Wood Anemones and Orchids. The woodland comprises Oak and Ash coppice and a dense understorey of Hawthorn Blackthorn, Wild Rose and Field Maple.

A large pond towards the centre of the wood is home to a wide range of aquatic life, including Newts, Frogs and Water Scorpions.
