St Marthas Hill

The sandy paths up to the Church on the summit offer stunning views of the surrounding area. From the top, on a clear day, you can see eight counties. The sandy hillside is clothed in woodland. Part of the 60 hectare site has a rare mixture of plant species and is classed as a Site of Special Scientific interest. There is also an area called the Arboretum where, in 1900, the owners of the Albury estate planted exotic cedars, spruces and other softwood trees.

Chantry Wood

Chantry Wood is 78 hectares of mixed woodland and an Area of High Ecological Value within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in striking distance of Guildford Town Centre. The North Downs Way goes through the site from East to West and three way-marked trails have been developed which can be found in an information leaflet on the site. Some of the best views in the Borough can be found from the Five Fields located on the south of the site where there is also a campsite available to youth groups and charities.

Merrow Downs

The majority of the remainder of the Common is broadleaved woodland. Predominantly hazel coppice under oak, this woodland is rich in biodiversity and is complemented by stands of impressive old yew trees estimated to be over 1000 years old. The area now contains a diverse footpath network and a variety of landscape types, with spectacular views to London and the north.

Colyers Hanger

It includes Ancient Woodland habitats on the steeper slopes, and an area of heathland habitats on more level land above these.
