To celebrate the history and achievements of the Royal Navy Field Gun competition, this exhibit is housed in the Tarred Yarn stores of the 18th century Ropery. Based on the original Field Gun competition equipment and important archive material, the exhibit aims to keep the great spirit of the Field Gun competition alive. he Figurehead Gallery houses some unique carvings from the past. FigureHeads were used on the Royal Navys ships until the advent of steel hulls when ships crests took over.Recently moved from his position near No1 slip King Billy is now protected undercover within the gallery. He has been replaced near No1 slip by an exact copy, thereby continuing to be a familiar site to all entering the River Tamar. large collection of artifacts came from the Royal William Victualling Yard when it closed in 1992. This, together with the remains of the original dockyard museum,is now housed in the 19th century Police and Cashiers Office and the Old Fire Station in the historic South Yard of the Naval Base. This is the home of the developing Plymouth Naval Base Museum.
