Portland Museum: Today this 17th Century Cottage houses the island's proud heritage and maritime traditions in the Shipwreck and Smuggling Exhibition, the museum also has displays of the traditions of the Island's Court Leet and Royal Manor of Portland.

The purpose built gallery is the home of the Islands history which is related through a wealth of exhibits, including a display on the museums founder, Dr Marie Stopes

How to get here

Car

Take the A354 follow it to Portland. Stay on this road until you see the brown signs for Portland Museum.

Bus

If travelling by bus from Weymouth, catch the No1 from the back of Debenhams. Get off the bus at Easton Square Gardens and follow the Straits until the road leads into Wakeham. You will find Portland Museum at the end of the road, just past the Mermaid pub

Train

There is no railway on Portland. If arriving by train in Weymouth, get off the train, and follow the bus directions to Portland Museum.
