Poynton Coppice has an 8 hectare section which is owned by Macclesfield Borough Council and managed with wildlife in mind. A circular path with steps lead visitors from the Middlewood Way into the heart of the woodland. It must be borne in mind that parts of the coppice are privately owned and pointers must be respected. Poynton Coppice has been designated a local nature reserve, it is thought to have been continuously wooded for thousands of years, so is classed as an ancient woodland, it is an attractive woodland rich in wildlife. Human activities in the past have helped to shape a habitat which has produced an area of great variety of flora and fauna.
