Queensferry Museum

UK»Scotland»Lothian»Queensferry Museum

Queensferry Museum traces the history of the people of Queensferry and Dalmeny, the historic ferry passage to Fife, the construction of the rail and road bridges, and spotlights the wildlife of the Forth estuary.

One of the most striking displays, and a symbol of Queensferrys distinct identity, is the ancient custom of the Burry Man. Clad from head to foot in a costume made from the burrs of the burdock plant he parades through the former burgh for nine hours on a Friday in early August. The origins and meanings of the ceremony are lost in the mists of time.
