The Royal Landscape is such a large area you can spend an entire day here and not cover the same ground twice. There are 1000 acres (400 hectares) of woodland, lakes and gardens to explore and, if you bring your bicycle, there are even more areas of Windsor Great Park to discover.

Valley Gardens

Located on the northern shores of Virginia Water, with meandering pathways and plunging views, The Valley Gardens cover 250 acres of landscaped garden and woodland. This flowering forest, interspersed by grassy meadows and expansive plantings of exotic shrubs, has been continuously planted since the middle of the eighteenth century.

Virginia Water

The lake was once a place of pageantry and spectacle. There are historical references to a Chinese junk floating on the lake, with follies and fishing temples built on the shore.
Visitors can still admire, on the south bank, the ornamental cascade from the 18th century and a 'Roman temple' built from columns and lintels brought from the ancient city of Leptis Magna in the early 19th century. One of the area's more recent additions is a towering 100-foot high Totem Pole, a gift from the government of British Columbia.
