St Bartholomews Church

UK»England»Derbyshire»St Bartholomews Church

St Bartholomews Church is close to the castle. It has a fine perpendicular west tower and marks can still be seen on Sir John Stanhopes tomb, made by the Roundheads swords. The chancel dates back about 800 years and an extensive restoration took place in 1847, in which the tower was gutted and two bells recast. There are some magnificent wall murals in the church, an intricate screen and some impressive marble tombs.
