St Cyriac and St Julitta Swaffham Prior

UK»England»Cambridgeshire»St Cyriac and St Julitta Swaffham Prior

St Cyriac and St Julitta Swaffham Prior: To see Swaffham Priors two eccentric churches, sharing the same churchyard, and rising above the village street, is memorable. Until they were combined in 1667, each parish had its own church with both enjoying varied fortunes including periods of dereliction, until St Marys became the parish church. St Cyriacs has a handsome 15th century octagonal bell tower with a ring of six bells cast in 1791. The nave and chancel were rebuilt in pale yellow local brick in 1806 by Charles Humfrey, a pupil of Wyatt, which gave the church an elegant and spacious, Gothic, interior with incredible acoustics.
