Stoke Woods, Devon: An important wildlife habitat on the northern edge of Exeter, along the A396 one mile beyond Cowley Bridge. Stoke Woods is partly owned by the Forestry Commission and is jointly cared for with the Exeter City Council. The woods are great for picnics and dog walking. There are viewpoints across the Exe Valley and marked walking trails. A large variety of trees, some of the oldest and largest in Exeter, are found here. The woods support roe deer, badgers, foxes, 40 species of breeding birds and butterflies including the silver-washed fritillary.

Head north from Exeter along the A396 Tiverton road and approximately one mile after Cowley Bridge you will see a right turn in to the signposted car park.
