West Park Crosses Macclesfield: The West Park Crosses are three Saxon circular pillar crosses dating from the late 9th to early 10th century. All have circular shafts tapering to a rectangular section and there are traces of weathered interlace decoration visible on the rectangular sections. These types of cross are found on the hill slopes above the Cheshire Plain and in the Peak District. The original intention of the siting is not known but they may indicate the northern boundary of the Anglo Saxon kingdom of Mercia.
