Whinlatter Forest Park, England's only true Mountain Forest. Rising to 790 metres above sea level Whinlatter Forest Park offers spectacular views of the Lake District and into Scotland. There is also a visitor Centre which you will find an audio-visual presentation in Cumbrian dialect, a working model depicting the life of a working forest, a badger sett you can walk through, a book and gift shop and a restaurant. The shop sells a guide to the forest, showing the fourteen miles of road suitable for walkers and cyclists, as well as many other paths for walkers.

Bike Trail

The Altura Trail is a 19 kilometre red grade mountain bike route which includes 15 kilometres of new single track. There are challenging single track sections and popular features like berms, jumps, rock features, skinnies, cork screws and table tops. There are also fantatsic views of Derwent water, Bassenthwaite, Helvelyn and Skiddaw as the trail takes the rider to an altitude of 500m (1600ft) above Keswick and there is a new bike trail called The ‘Quercus Trail' which is a 7.5 kilometre blue grade mountain bike route which has been designed for any reasonably competent cyclists and mountain bikers of any age with basic off road riding skills, including families with children aged seven years and over.
